ABOUT US
Fueled by a lifelong passion for hockey that started at the age of 4, David has shifted his love for playing into a dedicated commitment to understanding the journey of youth hockey development in today's rapidly changing game. Understanding that individuals learn differently and at different rates, DS3 will strive to create an environment where young athletes feel not only encouraged but also empowered to step out of their comfort zone. Our approach to skating takes an unorthodox teaching style, emphasizing edgework techniques taught by some of the best coaches in the game today. Our overarching goal is to instill a love for hockey that extends beyond the rink, foster active lifestyles, and create lifelong athletes.
OUR STAFF
DAVID SIMOES
Head Instructor
While playing Jr. A hockey in the BCHL as a teen and young adult, I helped with and ran various hockey schools, which gave me the initial passion to share the game of hockey with young players, and I knew I wanted to coach at some point. I won the Royal Bank Cup in 2006 with the Burnaby Express and am proud to be a Canadian National Junior A Champion. After juniors, I continued to play six years in the Central Hockey League, finishing my professional career with the Missouri Mavericks. Moving back to my hometown of Vanderhoof, BC I became active in the local minor hockey association by serving as a coach, board member, and eventually president of the association. During my time in British Columbia, I organized and ran two successful programs: "Northern Grit Hockey School" and "Pond Hockey Breakfast Club". Out of my desire for all kids to have the opportunity to play hockey free of charge, "Pond Hockey Breakfast Club" is a sponsored program for school-aged kids at any skill level that would focus on building skill through small area ice games and end sessions with an unstructured game of "pond hockey", followed by a free breakfast before kids headed off to school for the day. After a recent move back to the United States, I am excited to share my experience and passion for the game with the next generation of hockey players in North Dakota and beyond.

POWER SKATING/SKILLS SMALL GROUP SESSIONS
These sessions will have a heavy focus on edge work and helping players feel more comfortable on their skates. Our sessions will include edgework and power skating, and we will end our sessions with cognitive skill development games. We will focus on translating these training sessions to on-ice game situations, so players will be ready to compete at their highest level throughout the season, equipped with the proper skills and improved hockey game sense through our unique and encouraging training style.
TEAM SKILL/POWER SKATING SESSIONS
Designed for teams to enhance and utilize edgework and skill acquisition in addition to their regular practice schedule.
DEFENSEMAN CAMPS
Camps offered to defensemen looking to gain a better understanding of the position. We will prioritize a focus on the skills needed to be a defenseman in today's modern game. We will work on walking the offensive blue line, advancing pucks, puck retrievals, deception, and what skating and skill techniques you need to do this effectively.
